Buchanan Bus Station

The famous image of John Clinch's bronze lovers embracing at Buchanan Bus Station is a welcoming sight for visitors who arrive into the main bus terminal in Glasgow. The 1995 statue shows a man with an overnight bag containing the Evening Times and a mini-skirted woman sharing a passionate kiss. This is a very appropriate image, since Buchanan Bus Station is the point of departure or arrival for a huge number of journeys from Glasgow to both towns and cities throughout the UK, along with international destinations.

The central bus station in Glasgow is conveniently located on Killermont Street, close to the site of the old Buchanan Street railway station which closed in the 1960s. It was built in 1977 and today it is the biggest bus station in all of Scotland, with over 40,000 passengers passing through it every day. It is linked by bus with both Glasgow Central Station and the nearby Queen Street Station railway terminals.

Buchanan Bus Station is a great place to start any visit to Glasgow. It is just north of lively Sauchiehall Street and opposite the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall which offers a great array of cultural events all year round. It is also close to one of the biggest shopping centres in the UK, the Buchanan Galleries (at the junction of Buchanan Street and Sauchiehall Street) which boasts over 90 shops including John Lewis.
