Glasgow Travel Information

Planes, trains and automobiles - there are so many ways to travel to Glasgow depending on where you are coming from and how long you expect to stay. Once you reach the city, you will find that there is a great public transport system in place to help you get around whether you prefer to travel underground or over ground.

Air Travel:

There are two international airports serving Glasgow, as befits the largest and most populated city in Scotland. There are daily flights from London and many other UK cities, along with transatlantic flights and flights from Dubai that arrive into Glasgow International Airport. Glasgow Prestwick International Airport is another busy local airport that welcomes a number of charter and low-cost companies that fly into the city.

Rail Travel:

There are also two mainline railway stations in Glasgow: Queen Street Station off George Square, which links the city to the rest of Scotland and Glasgow Central Station near Argyle Street, which is the gateway to all other major UK cities.

Road Travel:

There are a number of road connections from many other cities and as you would expect Glasgow, Scotland's largest city, is a focal point for the trunk road network - the A8, A82, A80, A74 and A77 roads all lead into Glasgow.

Glasgow Subway:

Glasgow has an underground metro system which first opened in 1896. It consists of a circular line that takes in many points of interest in the city.

Bus travel:

Glasgow also boasts an extensive bus service, with special bus corridors that give priority to this form of transport. There are four main bus operators in the city, taking visitors and locals alike to destinations throughout the metropolis. The main bus station for the city is Buchanan Bus Station, located near the city centre on Buchanan Street.
