Partick Thistle Football Club

There are three main professional football clubs in Glasgow: the Old Firm of Celtic and Rangers and the less well-known Partick Thistle. Although originally based in Partick after being founded in 1876, the club has not played there since 1908 and its home ground is at Firhill in the Maryhill part of Glasgow. The team regularly plays in the Scottish Premiership, the highest level of the Scottish Professional Football League, and is affectionately known as The Jags.

Following its foundation in 1876, Partick Thistle had a number of homes around Glasgow - Kelvingrove, Muirpark, Meadowside and Inchview, before settling in Firhill in 1909. The team's two greatest achievements have been the Scottish Cup in 1921 and the Scottish League Cup in 1971. Partick Thistle supporters stick with their team through thick and thin, and while their team is the least successful of the big Glasgow clubs, they are a loyal band of fans who patiently bear the endless jokes about their team's relative failure compared to Celtic and Rangers.
